Using the DROP approach to coach toxic employees

How do you work with an employee who has been behaving badly, to improve their behaviours in a way that benefits everyone?

We recommend using the D.R.O.P. technique for coaching a toxic employee, which is a neurological approach that can work at both the individual and group levels.

First, you begin by defining the destination, which can be derived from the group-generated behaviour protocol, if you have one. Then you check in with the current reality, how bad things are, and agree on what we’re aiming for instead.

After that, you generate a bunch of options for ways to improve the situation, and create a plan to put those into action, following by taking action and reflecting on the effectiveness of that.

Let’s explore the D.R.O.P. technique more fully.
